Andrew Brown Appearances

Dr. Andrew "Andy" Brown is a main character in every season of the WB drama series Everwood. He is the widowed husband of Julia Brown, and is a single father to his children; Ephram and Delia Brown. He is portrayed by Treat Williams.

Background[]

Andy was born and raised in Manhattan, New York as an only child. He knew from a young age that his dream was to become a surgeon but his parents, specifically his father, were very unsupportive of that career path. Because of their lack of support Andy had a distant relationship with his parents and didn't bother to keep in touch after he graduated from medical school.

While in medical school Andy was quickly seen as a prodigy, noticed because of his stitching skills. After Dr. Donald Douglas decided to mentor him, Andy gained a lot of recognition within the neurosurgery community.

Andy met Julia Hoffman while he was still in university and he immediately knew he was going to marry her. Even though her parents weren't fond of Andy, Julia fell in love with him and they married young. They had two children, Ephram and Delia, but due to his rising career in neurosurgery Andy was not a present father. The couple went through a few rough patches and fights, but they remained in love until Julia's fatal car accident, after which Andy was left a single father.

Throughout the Series[]

Season 1[]

Before moving to Everwood, Dr. Andrew Brown was a famous neurosurgeon living in New York City. He was mainly an absentee father, putting his work before his family most of the time. Although his daughter was still young and hadn't grown resentful, Andy had a strained relationship with his son and wife by the time she died in a car accident. Andy decided to move to Everwood because he was thinking about a conversation he and his wife had had before she died. She said that if she ever died, he should look in Everwood for her because "that's where she'll be."

Upon moving to the small mountain town in Colorado, Andy opened up a free practice in the defunct train station. This newfound competition with a famous and world-renowned surgeon resulted in a rivalry between Andy and Everwood's only other doctor, Harold Abbott.
